Muslims, Christians, and Jews say their monotheistic god is the most logical explanation of the universe. Here is their argument:
- The universe did not appear out of nowhere, nor could it be uncreated, so there must be a creator, the universe is contingent.
- This creator must be outside space and time if it were to create the universe.
- The creator must be necessary; uncreated (pre-existing)
- The necessary creator cannot enter its creation.
- The creator is unlimited in power.
- A single creator is the simplest answer.
Secular Paganism does not tell you how to define your gods, it simply tells you how you can't define your gods (as in monotheism/dualism). However, if you want your universe to make sense according to the monotheists, we would suggest the following understanding of the gods:
- The universe is created and has creators.
- The creators must be outside space and time.
- The creators are pre-existing (uncreated).
- The creators are limited in power (there is little room for more than one all-powerful being).
- The creators must be called another word than "necessary" because there is no creator who is responsible for ALL of creation. We call these collaborating powers "zinda" rather than necessary.
- While an all-powerful necessary being cannot enter creation, perhaps a limited power non-necessary being (zinda) can. If it becomes untenable for the zinda to take physical shape then abandon this notion.
- Multiple creators is more complex, but that does not mean it is wrong.
This being said, Secular Paganism does not outlaw believing the universe is uncreated or that it appeared out of nowhere, nor does it outlaw stating that the gods do not exist outside of space and time. However, these assumptions would be called "illogical" by monotheists... which may or may not be true.
